National Highways Sector Scheme 12a Foreman (TMF)

Who should attend:

  • Selected candidates who will be required to Supervise traffic management on High-Speed Dual Carriageways.
  • Candidates who require completing of this programme as part of their achievement to become a Traffic Safety Control Officer (TSCO)

The aim of this course is to provide candidates with the necessary knowledge to enable them to supervise the installation, removal of static temporary traffic management measures on high speed dual carriageway.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the course the candidate must be able to:

  • Be able to plan traffic management layout required to allow access to work area.
  • Calculate the distances required for a range of traffic management layouts.
  • Calculate the amount of equipment required for a given traffic management layout.
  • Assess the standard of equipment that is acceptable to use.
  • Have an understanding the planning required for relaxation or standard works.
  • Have an understanding the different types of temporary markings and how is incorporated within standard works.
  • Have an understanding of how temporary hard shoulder running can be used in conjunction with relaxed or standard works.
  • Have an understanding how mandatory temporary speed limits affect the traffic management layout.
  • Have an understanding of the systems for switching traffic between lanes and contra flow conditions.

Certification/Registration:

  • Registered 12a/b Operatives will receive a Foreman registration card valid for 5 years.
  • Candidates who are not registered as a Lead Traffic management Operative (LTMO) will receive a certificate which is valid for 2 years.
